Galería Suites sits on Avenida Tercer Mundo, between Cuba and the Malecón, on the block that ends at the beach of San Francisco, the village everyone calls San Pancho. Up front there's a shop and a gallery showing work by local artists; behind it, set back from the street by a garden, are the suites. The village's restaurants, cafés and boutiques start at the door, and guests put the sand somewhere between 20 and 70 meters away.
It's a small apartment-hotel, rated 3 on Expedia, with no pool and no lobby: its strengths are the location, the cleanliness and the personal service. It scores 10 out of 10 from 49 reviews (47 of them perfect) and 4.9 on Google. One guest summed it up as "like staying in an art gallery in the jungle, but right where all the action is."

Reviews mention 20 to 70 meters: "you can hear the waves crashing at night if you listen."
From 49 reviews, 47 of them perfect. Cleanliness: 10; property condition: 9.8.
Few rooms and very personal service: guests single out the attention and the good communication.
Stovetop, mini fridge, blender and coffee maker outdoors, on a private patio with plants.
Restaurants, cafés and boutiques along Avenida Tercer Mundo, all walkable, no car needed.

Three suites built on the same idea, with a simple design of wood, light walls and beamed ceilings. All with air conditioning, free wifi, a private bathroom with a shower, a hair dryer and toiletries, and a patio of their own with a kitchenette.
Spacious and cool, with air conditioning. It opens onto its own planted patio rather than the street: quiet, but with no sea view.
See price →It's on the patio, with a table for eating outside. Several guests mention starting the day with French-press coffee.
See price →Guests praise the shower, with good pressure and hot water, and the comfortable bed. Daily housekeeping, according to Expedia.
See price →A three-suite apartment-hotel with no pool, restaurant or parking: what it has is designed for enjoying the village and the beach.
The hotel doesn't serve meals, but you have a kitchenette on your patio, and San Pancho's main street, lined with restaurants, starts at the door.
With the coffee maker and kitchenette you can have breakfast outside among the plants before heading to the beach.
Stovetop, mini fridge and blender: enough for breakfasts, fruit smoothies and simple dinners.
Tacos in the village, a few minutes' walk away.
In the center of the village, very close to the hotel.
Two options for coffee and breakfast, within walking distance.
A village restaurant and bar, a few blocks away.
The Riviera Nayarit is the coast north of Puerto Vallarta: beach villages between the jungle and the Pacific, strung along Highway 200. Distances are in a straight line from the hotel; Sayulita and Punta de Mita are minutes away by car and Puerto Vallarta about an hour.

A long, open beach with strong waves and a few surfers, quiet for most of the year. Watching the sunset is the evening ritual; only swim where the waves allow it and follow the flags.

The busier surf village next door: streets hung with papel picado, Huichol craft shops, taco stands and surf schools for beginners. Great for an afternoon or dinner out.

A national park off Punta de Mita, from where boats take less than half an hour. Snorkeling over the reefs, seabirds and the Hidden Beach inside a crater, with limited access and a daily visitor cap.

A calm, family-friendly bay half an hour north. Boats leave from the beach for Coral Island, good for snorkeling; on the way is Lo de Marcos, another unhurried beach village.

An hour south: the Malecón with its bronze sculptures, the crowned tower of the Guadalupe church and the Zona Romántica, with restaurants, galleries and nightlife.

Across the bay are villages with no road, between jungle and sea: Yelapa is reached by boat from Puerto Vallarta or on a full-day tour, with a waterfall and a golden-sand beach.

The nearest airport, with direct flights from Mexico, the US and Canada. San Pancho is about 45 km away on Highway 200: about 52 minutes by car, according to Expedia. The hotel offers a round-trip shuttle for a fee.
The easiest option is a pre-booked shuttle that drops you at the door. Authorized airport taxis are the most expensive; across the pedestrian bridge on the main avenue you'll find cheaper street taxis and Uber.
Buses heading north on Highway 200 (toward Sayulita, San Pancho, Lo de Marcos and Guayabitos) pass near the airport. In San Pancho they stop at the village entrance, on the highway; from there Avenida Tercer Mundo runs straight down to the hotel and the beach.
A rental car lets you explore the coast at your own pace: Punta de Mita, Sayulita, Lo de Marcos and Guayabitos are only minutes apart. The hotel has no parking, and street spots in central San Pancho are hard to find.
San Pancho, Sayulita, Punta de Mita and Bucerías (Bahía de Banderas municipality) are on the same time as Puerto Vallarta. Rincón de Guayabitos, in Compostela, is one hour behind: keep it in mind for tours and flights.
From Avenida Tercer Mundo, between Cuba and Malecón, in central San Pancho. Straight-line distances unless noted.

«It was like staying in an art gallery in the jungle, but you are actually right where all the action is. Literal steps to a beautiful beach.»
«Great location at the end of the main street right next to the beach. You can hear the waves crashing at night. Birds singing in the morning.»
«Like staying in your own jungle bungalow. Quiet and private; you can't get any closer to the beach in San Pancho.»
«The room exceeded my expectations, and the best part was the outdoor kitchenette.»
«Great location. The room is basic, but nicely designed. Staff is friendly and the price is a bargain, but don't expect the Four Seasons.»
«The beach is across the street. The kitchen is outside, on the patio.»
The front desk is open 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Contact the hotel at least 24 hours ahead for instructions, and let them know if you'll arrive after 8:00 PM. Check-out before 11:00 AM.
Photo ID and a card or cash deposit for incidentals may be required.
You park on the street, and spots in the center are hard to find. Coming from the airport, a shuttle or taxi is easier.
The suites face their own planted patio, not the street or the beach: you gain privacy and quiet, not a view.
Most guests describe it as very quiet at night; one, however, found it fairly loud after dark. If you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs.
Expedia doesn't list an in-room safe: it's best not to leave cash or valuables in plain sight.
Pets aren't allowed. Smoking only in designated areas.
It's a small place: the pool is the Pacific, a minute away.
Tours rated 4.8 to 5 stars on Viator: the Marietas Islands, whales in season, surfing, tacos in Sayulita and horseback or ATV rides through the jungle. Several leave from Sayulita or pick up at hotels in Sayulita and San Pancho; check each tour's meeting point. Cancellation terms vary by tour.
